Village Fete a wonderful success.

Big crowds turned out to hear the Marsh Gibbon Silver Band, troupes of dancers, display teams and a village football match, all washed down with Teas, Beer, Ice-creams, a Bouncy Castle, Jousting and barbeque. Money was separated from its owner with a variety of Tombola's, plant stalls, Face-painting stalls, Treasure hunt stall and various games including putting, coconut shy, nine-pin bowling, and Quoits. all in all something for everyone!

TENNIS STAR TIM HENMAN GIVES BACK TO HIS HOME VILLAGE His name and Weston on the Green are locked together in the public mind. Tim Henman, the just retired British tennis star was brought up in the pretty village north of Oxford. His parents Tony and Jane still live there right by the tennis court where Tim learned to perfect his game. Tim went to the village school when it was open before heading off to pastures new at Reeds in Cobham. You can take the boy out of Weston but not vice versa. Now, Tim has decided to give back to Weston in a very public way. After being approached by a Village Hall Committee member, John Mair, Tim has donated the magnificent sum of 1000 (one thousand) pounds to the Weston Village Hall for its’ general fund. This is the biggest private donation every received by the hall. It has not yet been decided to what specific purpose the Henman bequest will be used. The Henman cheque was presented by Village hall trustee (another Westoner born and bred) Joan Boardman and her husband Norman, the village duckmeister, to VHMC chairman John Williams at the annual lighting up of the Christmas lights on Sunday December 16th (That event attracted fifty plus villagers for mulled wine ,mince pies and carol singing). VHMC Chairman John Williams says ’"I was delighted with the donation and it would be put to good use to improve the Village Hall. We thank him very much".’ Report by John Mair *************************** Courtesy of the "Village

**************************************************************************************** On Sunday 16th December 2007, at 6:30pm, we had the now traditional 'switching-on' of the Memorial Hall Christmas Tree lights. After the throwing of the switch by Joan and Norman Boardman, a large donation cheque was gratefully received by the Hall Committee. Pictured below is the handing over ceremony when Joan and Norman Boardman can be seen giving the donation cheque for £1000 by a local benefactor of the Hall to John Williams, Chair of the Committee. Singing of Christmas Carols followed this. Graham Barnett organised the singing and advertised the Women's Institute Carol signing around the village on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings this week (18th - 21st December). Finally the 250-club draw was made. Here Beth Warren is seen being helped from the table by Michael Tunbridge after assisting in the draw. Her Dad, Paul can be seen in the foreground. ************************************** The Weston Village day was held on 17th June 2006. In was a splendid success with almost perfect weather - too hot is anything, and the clear blue sky was perfect for the sky-divers who dropped in at the beginning of the afternoon. Throughout the morning Bernita ran her now very famous "Big Breakfast" event in the Hall and during the afternoon the teas, cookery demonstrations, Morris dancers (an all ladies troupe), glider show, fete with a variety of games, bouncy castle, more teas and tombola.
The proceeds are to be divided between the Children's Playground and the Hall (with some going for the Duck's food on the Duck-pond). The day was successful and has raised a large sum for such a low-key event.
Bill Heine opens the event. Everyone looking for the sky-divers and then... they arrive in style The Weston Skydive team. Then the Aynho Apricots Morris Team provided music and dance. The games at the fete and the bouncy castle kept people busy and 'spending'. The teas and tombola in the hall added to the fun. Here is 'Joan' at the ice cream. Duck racing. The ducks were sold during the afternoon and then raced to determine the winner. (Love-a-duck won). Accommodation in Weston Weston Manor
